Foundations Furniture sitting pretty after funding cash boost
Foundations Furniture, a charity in Teams, Gateshead, has been awarded £27,629 of European Social Funding to support local people to gain work experience in a warehouse/retail setting.
Foundations has supported residents in this way informally for over two decades but now has the resources to deliver a formal programme of up to 12 weeks per person thanks to the 'Gateshead Goes Local' programme, administered by Gateshead Council
As well as practical work experience, the company's skilled advisors can now provide more one-to-one support, advice and guidance as well as "job readiness" workshops. The workshops cover training on how to effectively search and apply for jobs, help with CVs, how to prepare for interviews and advice on self-employment.
Richard Talbot-Jones, Acting Chair of Gateshead Goes Local Action Group (LAG), said: "This is great news for the borough; Foundations Furniture is an exciting charity with fantastic plans to prepare people for future employment - we're really keen to see the impact this new initiative will have! We currently have an open funding call, and I would encourage other organisations in and around Gateshead to consider applying for funding for similar projects increasing employability and bringing people closer to the job market."
Gateshead Goes Local is part of the Community Led Local Development project and is part of the 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme.
Established by the European Union, the European Social Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support skills development, employment and job creation, social inclusion and local community regenerations.
